Ministers decided in cabinet to give away a month's pay to the Padma Bridge Project :2 bank accounts for donations

The ministers decided to give away a month's pay to the Padma Bridge project. The Cabinet had decided to open two bank accounts for people willing to contribute to the Padma bridge project – a second one for non-resident Bangladeshis paying in foreign exchange. The decision came at the weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters that  a bank account would be opened where Bangladeshis would be able to contribute as much as they want in local currency. The second account would be for the expatriates so that they could contribute in foreign currencies. The Cabinet Secretary said the finance division has been given the responsibility to finalise the system method and policy to run the accounts.

On Jun 29, the World Bank cancelled its pledged $1.2 billion fund for the Padma bridge project alleging corruption. The Prime Minister on Jul 4 announced that the government would build the bridge with own fund, if necessary. She also spoke of plans to raise funds for the bridge by issuing sovereign bonds worth $ 750 million.  Following her announcement, the government had claimed to have gotten overwhelming response from the people.  Bhuiyan said Prime Minister has expressed   great hope and satisfaction at the public response and congratulated those who donated for the fund or showed interests.
