Karachi: All the major parties on November 11 submitted a resolution in the provincial assembly of Sindh, condemning Hassan’s statement in which he glorified the death of Mehsud in a US drone attack.
Jamaat-e-Islami, a radical party and close ally to the military establishment, on Monday refused to apologise and withdraw its chief Munawar Hassan’s statement declaring Taliban militant, Hakimullah Mehsud, as a martyr. The statement has provoked Pakistani Army whose thousands of soldiers and officers died during the war against Taliban and other militant groups in the past decade.
In a rare reaction to a political statement, a spokesman of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), on Sunday, expressed anger of the armed forces over Hassan’s remarks and asked for submitting an apology and withdrawal of the statement.

“The people whose loved ones died while fighting terrorists, demand an unconditional apology from Syed Munawar Hassan for hurting their feelings,” the ISPR statement said.“It is also expected that Jamaat-e-Islami should clearly state its position on the subject,” it read.
However, the JI supreme council that met in Lahore on November 11 to discuss the army’s reaction rejected it’s involvement into politics.“The army has no right to interfere into political affairs and this request cannot be granted,” Liaqat Baluch, a senior party leader told the media after the council meeting. He said that the council mulled over the ISPR statement but it came to a conclusion that the issues were being distracted intentionally.

The resolution was placed by ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) besides the main opposition parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Muslim League’s factions N and F. MQM leader demanded banning JI saying that its views were posing threats to the country. They further said that the Hassan’s statement ridiculed the defenders of Pakistan.
