CHANDIGARH: Kulwinder Kaur, Anjana Sharma and Santosh Sharma are the 'Charlie's Angels' of the wrestling arena, whose slight signal stops the hulks, even if they are in the thick of action.
They aren't active wrestlers, but Indian match referees, who officiate in national and international tournaments.
In a game dominated by men, they are the only Indian referees to officiate in international matches. Now, they have their sights set on making it big at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Kulwinder from 'City Beautiful' is an erstwhile national-level wrestler. She started officiating in matches after completing a diploma at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, in 2005 and is the seniormost of the trio. But despite her vast experience, Kulwinder doesn't take her job for granted and strives to be better at it.
"I feel proud and honoured while supervising a bout. Besides, I also enjoy the assignment. It is always a challenging job and I continuously update my knowledge about the technical aspects of refereeing," says Kulwinder.
